Georgia dismissed junior receiver Jeremiah Holloman from the football team on Friday following recent revelations of an alleged assault in 2018.
“Jeremiah Holloman no longer represents the University of Georgia football program,” UGA coach Kirby Smart said in a statement. “We expect every member of our team to uphold the highest standards and values of the University of Georgia and Georgia football. It is disappointing when this does not happen.”
University police took a report on June 2, 2019, concerning an alleged assault in the early morning hours the day after the spring football game in April 2018.
According to the report, Holloman and a woman — identified by Sports Illustrated as his then-girlfriend — got into an argument. She alleged Holloman choked her and punched her in the face, leading to six stitches.
The victim said she did not want to pursue criminal charges. Campus police forwarded the report to the school’s Student Conduct office and the Office of Equal Opportunity.
Holloman was expected to be a top target for quarterback Jake Fromm this season. In 2018, Holloman caught 24 passes for 418 yards and five touchdowns.
The Bulldogs open the 2019 season on Aug. 31 at Vanderbilt.
