A national championship in 2007 and a pair of Southeastern Conference championships might not be enough for LSU coach Les Miles to keep his job in 2016.
According to The Advocate (Baton Rouge, La.), Miles is coaching for his job over the final two games and a clinched bowl appearance.
Per the newspaper, terminating Miles’ contract before Jan. 1 would trigger a $15 million buyout, payable over eight years plus an additional $2 million total to assistant coaches who have a “Les Miles clause” in their deals.
Miles has been on the ropes before and the Tigers could still finish the regular season at 9-2 and play in the Sugar Bowl.
A loss to Ole Miss following a 17-point defeat at home against rival Arkansas and a bitter defeat at Alabama would give LSU three losses in SEC play this season. The Tigers were 4-4 in conference play in 2014 and 5-3 in 2013.
