Mississippi State coach Joe Moorhead had his contract extended through the 2022 season, the school announced Tuesday.
Moorhead is slated to earn $3.05 million in 2019 with raises of $100,000 to follow in each of the next three seasons.
“We are excited about the leadership of Mississippi State football under Coach Moorhead,” athletic director John Cohen said in a news release. “He is a man of integrity, loyalty and humility. His love for his players and our program is evident. He is driven by elevating our program to a championship standard on and off the field. We look forward to watching the continued growth of our football program under his watch.”
The Bulldogs went 8-5 in Moorhead’s first season, including a 4-4 mark in SEC play. Mississippi State concluded its season by losing to Iowa in the Outback Bowl.
“For me, it’s about building a championship program our Bulldog fans can be proud of and helping our players maximize their potential on and off the field, while walking away with a meaningful degree from Mississippi State University,” Moorhead said in a statement. “Our team is excited about the season ahead, and I look forward to continuing to elevate our program in everything we do.”
Moorhead became Mississippi State’s coach following the 2017 season. He was hired after Dan Mullen departed Starkville to become head coach at Florida.
Moorhead spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons as offensive coordinator at Penn State. That stint occurred after he went 38-13 as head coach at Fordham (2012-15), an FCS program.
