Mississippi wide receiver D.K. Metcalf is planning on taking his game to the next level.

Metcalf announced via social media that he will forgo the final two years of his college eligibility and will enter the 2019 NFL Draft.

“I have enjoyed my time at Ole Miss, gaining brothers and a family,” Metcalf wrote on his personal Twitter account. “I want to thank the University, my coaches, and teammates, but most importantly my family for helping me through this process.”

Injuries have hampered Metcalf during his tenure at Ole Miss. He suffered a broken foot after appearing in only two games as a freshman and was granted an extra year of eligibility.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound Metcalf played in 12 games in 2017, setting career highs with 39 receptions for 646 yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged 16.6 yards per catch.

Metcalf opened the 2018 campaign with a touchdown reception in each of his first four games but saw his season come to an end after suffering a back injury in mid-October.

He finished the season with 26 catches for 569 yards and five touchdowns in seven games, averaging a stellar 21.9 yards per reception.

NFLDraftScout.com analyst Rob Rang noted Metcalf’s troubling injury history but noted his “talent is undeniable.”

Rang compared Metcalf to New England Patriots receiver Josh Gordon (when healthy) and said he has looked like a “future pro since first stepping onto the field.

For his career, Metcalf racked up 67 catches for 1,228 yards and 14 touchdowns in 21 games.
