PLAYERS TO WATCH

–QB Jake Bentley set a single-game career high in pass attempts with 47 against Georgia in the Gamecocks’ most recent outing, completing 30 for 269 yards and a touchdown against two interceptions. He was the victim of several drops, but shouldered the blame for that. “I have to put the ball in a better spot to make it easier to catch,” Bentley said.

–WR Bryan Edwards had 111 yards on seven receptions with two of them going for touchdowns against Georgia. He is second to WR Deebo Samuel in receptions for the young season with 11 catches to Samuel’s 13. “We’re going to continue to get him the ball more and create some one-on-ones,” coach Will Muschamp said of Edwards, a junior. “He’s a good football player and a competitive young man, and we’ve got to continue to find ways to get him the ball.”

–LB TJ Brunson leads the Gamecocks with 11 tackles in two games with 10 of them solo efforts. He also has an assist on a sack in the loss to Georgia among his five tackles but feels he and the defense overall could have done more. “We just didn’t align fast enough,” he said. “We weren’t urgent. That is what it boiled down to — urgency, being vocal, and getting the calls to everyone.”

–NB Jaycee Horn continues to impress after recording five tackles, all solo and one for a loss, against Georgia. The true freshman had three tackles, including a sack and another tackle for a loss, against Coastal Carolina in his collegiate debut.

SERIES HISTORY: South Carolina leads Vanderbilt 23-4. Last season’s 34-27 victory was the ninth in a row for the Gamecocks in the series.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “Our guys are looking forward to getting back on the field.” — Coach Will Muschamp, on their enthusiasm after last week’s game was cancelled.
