South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier will join the ranks of college football coaches making $4 million a year when the school’s Board of Trustees approve a contract extension on Thursday.

The State newspaper reported Wednesday in Columbia, S.C., that the ol’ ball coach’s annual salary will rise from $3.3 million to $4 million. That will make Spurrier, 68, the ninth highest-paid college football coach in the country.

Spurrier’s current contract runs through 2017.

South Carolina’s assistant coaches also are getting pay increases after the Gamecocks’ 11-2 season in 2013 and a victory in the Capital One Bowl.

South Carolina has won 11 games and finished in the top 10 in the Associated Press poll each of the past three seasons.
