CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs starting pitcher John Lackey exited due to an apparent injury in the seventh inning of their game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night.

Lackey left after a 2-2 pitch to Randal Grichuk with two outs in the seventh. Lackey bent over and appeared to grimace after his final pitch. Justin Grimm replaced him and struck out Grichuk with a runner
at first.

Lackey allowed an unearned run and four hits, struck out five and walked one in 6 2/3 innings against his former team. He threw 106 pitches before manager Joe Maddon visited him on the mound and took
him out of the game. The Cubs have yet to disclose his injury.

The Cubs were leading 3-1 in the series finale.
