Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to an upper-back strain, the team announced Sunday.

The move is retroactive to June 16 and comes after the right-handed Strasburg missed his second consecutive start.

Strasburg told reporters on Friday that he was injured during a weight room workout. He said two ribs were out of alignment and later adjusted back into place. He attempted to throw Saturday and felt discomfort and was scratched from Sunday’s scheduled start.

Strasburg is 10-0 with a 2.90 ERA in 14 starts for the Nationals. He is the first National League starter to begin a season with 10 straight wins since San Diego’s Andy Hawkins in 1985.

–Pete Rose’s No. 14 was officially retired by the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.

The pregame ceremony wrapped up a weekend in which Major League Baseball’s all-time hits leader was inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame on Saturday and honored as part of the 1976 World Series winning team on Friday.

The Reds had been unable to honor Rose in the past due to his lifetime ban for betting on baseball. But MLB approved the club’s request to pay tribute to a player long recognized as one of the best in team history.

“It is our salute to that person whose impact transcends their lifetime and spares any future player the impossible task of living up to a legacy too large to fill,” Reds CEO Bob Castellini said during the ceremony.

Rose finished his 24-season major-league career with 4,256 hits. He spent 18-plus seasons with the Reds and also played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Montreal Expos.

–The Toronto Blue Jays placed right-hander Gavin Floyd on the 15-day disabled list after he suffered shoulder tightness during a brief appearance on Saturday.

The team also called up right-hander Bo Schultz from Triple-A Buffalo, who pitched in Chicago for Sunday’s series finale. Schultz had a 4.24 ERA with 14 strikeouts with the Bison.

–Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter said right-hander Darren O’Day (right hamstring strain) threw well Saturday except for one small detail.

Showalter said that if everything went right, O’Day could be activated during the West Coast trip which starts on Tuesday.

–Minnesota Twins manager Paul Molitor said the report on outfielder/third baseman Miguel Sano’s (hamstring) rehab games with Triple-A Rochester are that he is moving well but his timing at the plate remains off.

Sano will play at least three more games there through Wednesday before the team makes another evaluation.
