The Detroit Tigers have finalized a deal with free agent second baseman Josh Harrison on a one-year, $2 million deal.
Harrison, 31, hit .250 with 13 doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 37 RBIs in 344 at-bats in his eighth and final season in Pittsburgh.
In 2017, he hit .272 with 26 doubles, two triples, a career-high 16 home runs and 47 RBIs in 486 at-bats. He was selected to the National League All-Star team after a big first half.
“He’s a veteran guy with a lot of experience, brings a lot of energy and knowledge,” general manager Al Avila said. “He’s a good leader, a guy that’s been well-respected and liked. We feel obviously that he still has a lot left as far as performance, from a defensive perspective, baserunning perspective, and we feel he still has the opportunity to come back and have a good, productive offensive year. We think he fits in very well to help out the young guys, help out the coaching staff and really make us a better team overall.”
