Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right elbow Wednesday and miss the entire 2019 season.

The veteran backstop hurt his throwing arm in a late-February workout.

Perez, 28, is a six-time All-Star and one of baseball’s best catcher’s.

He hit .235 average with 23 doubles, 27 home runs and 80 RBIs last season despite missing time early in the year due to a knee injury.
