Kenley Jansen, RHP, Los Angeles

2018: In what can be described as an uncharacteristically mortal year for the Dodgers closer, Jansen saved 38 games and struck out 82 batters over 71.2 innings with his fourth consecutive sub- 1.00 WHIP. He also missed time because of an irregular heartbeat, a condition that necessitated offseason surgery.

Forecast: It’s hard to beat Jansen’s consistency. He has mustered at least 25 saves and 80 strikeouts in each of the past seven seasons. As teams around MLB employ more progressive bullpen strategies and the traditional closer becomes less prevalent, Jansen’s hammerlock on his job becomes even more valuable. Elite traditional closers such as Jansen have become scarce, and he’s one of the few safe picks at the position for 2019.

2019 Projections: 2-3, 2.45 ERA, 40 saves, 92 strikeouts and a 0.97 WHIP in 68 innings pitched.
