New York Mets ace Noah Syndergaard plans to get a second opinion on his torn right lat muscle and the right-handed could reportedly miss three months.

Syndergaard is scheduled to visit surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles on Thursday, the New York Post reported Wednesday. Initial estimates are that he could be sidelined three months, according to the newspaper.

The 24-year-old Syndergaard is out indefinitely after being placed on the disabled list Monday.

“This won’t be measured in days, it will be measured in weeks,” general manager Sandy Alderson told reporters Monday. “It will be a considerable time.”

Syndergaard was removed from his start in the second inning Sunday against the Washington Nationals, immediately holding up his right arm and grabbing his right side after throwing a 2-2 changeup to Bryce Harper.

Syndergaard allowed five runs on five hits in the first inning during the Mets’ embarrassing 23-5 loss at Nationals Park. He was scratched from his previous start Thursday in Atlanta due to biceps and shoulder discomfort, and was scheduled for an MRI last Friday but declined to have one after throwing a bullpen session.

“It was my decision for Noah to pitch,” Alderson said Monday while also claiming that he “sincerely believed that Noah thought he was fine.”

Syndergaard entered Sunday with a record of 1-1 and a 1.73 ERA. He had not walked a batter this season until Harper drew a free pass in the first inning. He is now 1-2 with a 3.29 ERA over 27 1/3 innings in five starts. In 2016, he was 14-9 with a 2.60 ERA, and had 218 strikeouts and 43 walks over 183 2/3 innings in 31 games (30 starts).
