Oakland Athletics first baseman Matt Olson could miss time with a hand injury suffered Thursday in the finale of a two-game series in Japan against the Seattle Mariners.

Olson left the game after fouling a ball off of his right hand.

San Francisco Chronicle reporter Susan Slusser reported postgame Thursday that Olson was having trouble gripping a bat after the injury.

Olson, 24, went 1 for 5 with a walk and run scored in the two-game set.

The Athletics are not expected to update his status until the team returns to Oakland.

Last year, Olson hit .247 with 33 doubles, 29 home runs and 84 RBIs.
