Khris Davis, DH/OF, Oakland

2018: In a world filled with inconsistency and improbable results, we salute and appreciate Davis. He led the majors with 48 home runs, his third consecutive season with at least 42, and batted .247 for the fourth year in a row (his career average is .248). Davis has shut down his stolen-base game entirely, no big deal, but he does put himself in harm’s way at the dish (12 HBPs). Oakland’s roomy confines didn’t bother him; his OPS was 146 points higher at home.

Forecast: No matter how you scored on the SATs, Davis’s projection is a question all of us can get right. Pay for the .247 average and 40-plus homers, and accept that as a high-strikeout, fly-ball hitter, he’s going to have some peaks and valleys. The final statistical haul should be a useful one; in 2018, he was the No. 26 hitter on ESPN’s Player Rater.

2019 Projections: .247 avg., 27 doubles, a triple, 42 home runs, 105 RBIs, 91 runs scored.
