The Philadelphia Phillies and free agent outfielder Bryce Harper have agreed to a 13-year, $330 million contract. The deal was first reported by ESPN Major League Baseball writer Jeff Passan. The contract reportedly has a no opt-out clause.

It is the largest guaranteed contract signed in United States sports history, surpassing Manny Machado’s 10-year, $300 million contract signed with the Padres.

Harper, 26, is a six-time All-Star (2012, 2013, 2015-18). He won the National League MVP in 2015.

Last season he hit .249 with 34 doubles, 34 triples and 100 RBIs. He scored 103 runs and stole 13 bases.

The Phillies have substantially improved their lineup this offseason with the additions of Harper and All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto, arguably the top hitting catcher in baseball. Harper should continue his strong power numbers by hitting in the friendly confines of Citizens Bank Park.
