Trea Turner, SS, Washington Nationals
2018: He accumulated more than 500 at-bats in a season for the first time — amassing 740 plate appearances — yet his numbers were just so-so for a consensus first-round draft pick. Dave Martinez bounced Turner all over the lineup and reportedly gave him the green light to run at will early in the season. Turner was efficient on the bases (43-for-52) but fell shy of loftier expectations.
Forecast: It’s not that Turner was chopped liver; he finished No. 19 overall on ESPN’s Player Rater and No. 22 in the Yahoo rankings. He checks all the fantasy boxes, and you can count the number of potential 20-40 men in baseball on two or three fingers. We’ll sign off on Turner anywhere in the second round, knowing he has first round upside.
2019 Projections: .282 avg., 35 doubles, seven triples, 18 home runs, 70 RBIs, 45 stolen bases, 99 runs scored.
