Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay’s impressive rookie season has come to an end after an MRI revealed ligament damage in his wrist, multiple media outlets reported.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Lindsay has a “possible scaphold fracture, along with ligament damage” and faces a “lengthy recovery.”

Lindsay is expected to have more tests conducted to check for a fracture in one of the small bones of the wrist.

The injury will force the 5-foot-8, 190-pound Lindsay to sit out on Sunday (4:25 p.m. ET) as the Broncos (6-9) conclude their season against the visiting Los Angeles Chargers (11-4). It also puts his appearance in the Pro Bowl in jeopardy.

Earlier this month, Lindsay became the first offensive player to be named to the Pro Bowl as an undrafted rookie.

Lindsay sustained the injury after getting hit by Oakland safety Erik Harris during a 7-yard gain in the third quarter of Monday night’s 27-14 loss to the Raiders.

The undrafted rookie exited the contest with 10 carries for 46 yards for Denver.

Lindsay’s toughness was on display as he was shown on the sideline attempting to get back in the game.

“I was just going through a play and it got hit and it just got numb a little bit,” the 24-year-old Lindsay said. “They took precaution and felt that I should stay out … they decided it was probably smart for me to sit out.”

Lindsay’s 1,037 rushing yards are just 67 behind former Indianapolis Colts running back Dominic Rhodes for the most by an undrafted rookie. Rhodes gained 1,104 yards as a rookie with the Colts in 2001.
