The Minnesota Vikings right tackle Phil Loadholt will miss the upcoming season after being placed on injured reserve on Tuesday.

Loadholt fell to the ground Sunday on the second play of the Vikings’ game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was carted off with a torn Achilles tendon.

The 29-year-old Loadholt, considered one of the NFL’s better run-blocking tackles, missed the final five games of the 2014 season with a torn pectoral muscle.

Rookie fourth-round pick T.J. Clemmings replaced Loadholt against the Buccaneers and is expected to be the favorite to replace him in the starting lineup.

Also, the Vikings signed free agent tackle Stephen Goodin.

The New York Giants signed Goodin as undrafted free agent before the 2013 season.

He appeared in one game for the Giants during the 2013 campaign before spending the 2014 preseason with the Dallas Cowboys.
