Chicago closer Pedro Strop earned a save for the Cubs on Wednesday, and it was anything but routine – he had to excuse himself from talking with police about his stolen car to go pitch.

Strop earned his third save of the season, securing a wild 7-6 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers after spending time during the game talking with police about his car, which was stolen earlier in the day.

“I was still giving them my information in the fourth inning, and I told them, ‘I have to go. I might have to pitch,'” Strop told ESPN. “It was a crazy day. I’m still dealing with it.”

Strop told ESPN that his car was involved in a police chase but that details were scant.

Strop is 1-1 with a 3.52 ERA in nine appearances this season.
