The Chicago Cubs decided to take a chance on Brett Anderson, signing the often-injured left-hander to a one-year contract on Thursday.

Yahoo Sports! reported the deal is for $3.5 million with incentives that could increase the value to $10 million.

Anderson, who turns 29 on Feb. 1, pitched in just four games for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season. He underwent back surgery prior to the season and returned in mid-August, but then suffered blister issues.

Anderson pitched more than 100 innings just once over the past six seasons. That occurred when he went 10-9 with a 3.69 ERA for the Dodgers in 2015.

He went 11-11 with a 4.06 ERA as a rookie for the Oakland Athletics in 2009. The following season, he went 7-6 with a 2.80 ERA when he was limited to 19 starts.

Anderson underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2011, and it took him awhile to return to form.
He pitched fewer than 50 innings in three consecutive seasons (2012-14) before pitching a career-high 180 1/3 innings for the Dodgers in 2015.

Anderson is 38-43 with a 3.86 ERA in 127 career appearances (115 starts).
