Cincinnati Reds LogoAfter finishing last in the National League Central this year, the Cincinnati Reds shook up their coaching staff on Thursday.

The Reds promoted Mark Riggins to pitching coach from minor league pitching coordinator and moved Jim Riggleman from third base to bench coach and first-base coach Billy Hatcher to third base.

Riggins, a former pitching coach for the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals, had served in the same minor league role with the Reds for the past four years. He replaces former pitching coach Jeff Pico. Riggleman moves into the role previously held by bench coach Jay Bell. Assistant hitting coach Lee Tinsley also was dismissed by the team.

The Reds had a revolving door on the mound this past season, starting all pitchers in the team’s final 64 regular-season games after trades and injuries depleted the staff.

Manager Bryan Price retained his job and will return to Cincinnati for a third season in 2016.
