Koby Perez was appointed Director of Latin American Scouting by the Cleveland Indians on Saturday.

Perez will oversee and guide all amateur scouting efforts in Latin American countries, including the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, after serving as the club’s International Crosschecker since November of 2013.

The 37-year-old Perez played five seasons in the minor leagues for the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox from 2001-05 before joining the Red Sox staff as a part-time scout.

Perez, who also worked for the St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies, was born in Tamayo, Dominican Republic, but has lived in North Bergen, N.J., since childhood.
