Rockies place Freeland on IL, activate Anderson

The Colorado Rockies placed staff ace Kyle Freeland on the 10-day injured list Monday due to a blister on his left middle finger.

The left-hander pitched six scoreless against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday before he departed after 86 pitches due to the blister.

Freeland, 25, is 2-3 with a 4.23 ERA in five starts this season. Last season, he went 17-7 with a 2.85 ERA in 33 starts while finishing fourth in the National League Cy Young balloting.

Colorado also activated left-hander Tyler Anderson (knee) from the IL, and he is starting Monday’s game against the Washington Nationals.

Anderson is 0-2 with a 11.00 ERA in two starts. He lasted pitched for the Rockies on April 5, when he gave up six runs and nine hits in four innings while losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Anderson, 29, went 7-9 with a 4.55 ERA in 32 starts last season. He served up 30 homers, tied for most in the National League.
