On a day that the Arizona finalized a deal with free agent pitcher Zack Greinke, the Diamondbacks added another starter to the rotation.
The Diamondbacks on Tuesday night acquired right-handed pitcher Shelby Miller, according to multiple media reports.
Arizona will send No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, shortstop prospect Dansby Swanson, to Atlanta in exchange for Miller. Atlanta gets also gets outfielder Ender Inciarte and another pitching prospect, Aaron Blair.
The Diamondbacks will receive 20-year-old left-handed pitching prospect Gabe Speier to complete the trade.
Earlier Tuesday, the Diamondbacks finalized a six-year deal with Greinke that reportedly is worth $206 million.
According to ESPN, the Braves insisted that Arizona include center fielder A.J. Pollock in any potential deal for Miller, but Pollock was not part of the trade.
Miller, in one season with the Braves after being traded by the St. Louis Cardinals, compiled a 6-17 record with a 3.02 ERA in 205 1/3 innings. In two previous seasons with the Cardinals, Miller went 25-18 with a 3.40 ERA.
Swanson will be groomed to replace shortstop Andrelton Simmons, who was traded to the Los Angeles Angels in the offseason.
Blair, 23, was 12-5 with a 2.92 ERA in 26 games (25 starts) last season in Double-A and Triple-A, with 120 strikeouts in 160 1/3 innings.
Inciarte, 25, hit .303 with six home runs, 45 RBIs and 21 stolen bases last season for Arizona.
