SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Giants traded third baseman Eduardo Nunez to the Boston Red Sox during their game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night, FOX’s Ken Rosenthal reported.

Multiple reports say the Giants are getting two pitching prospects in return, the names of which are currently unknown.

The Giants made no announcement of a trade when Nunez was removed from the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. He was seen saying good-bye to teammates as Kelby Tomlinson was replacing him as a pinch hitter.

Nunez had a two-run double and scored two runs in three plate appearances Tuesday, giving him a .308 average with four home runs and 31 RBIs in 76 games for the Giants this season.

The 30-year-old had been acquired by the Giants last July 28 from the Minnesota Twins for left-handed pitcher Adalberto Mejia.

According to Rosenthal, Nunez is owed approximately $1.5 million for the rest of the season.
