MLB Recaps: Bundy masterful in O’s W vs. Red Sox

BALTIMORE — Dylan Bundy took a shutout into the eighth inning, Manny Machado homered in the fifth inning and the Baltimore Orioles blanked the Boston Red Sox 2-0 Friday night.

Bundy was masterful for the second straight outing as he allowed six hits in seven-plus innings.

Pomeranz allowed two runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings. The Red Sox also lost Dustin Pedroia, who was forced to leave the game in the eighth when he was spiked in the left calf by Machado.

Nationals 4, Mets 3 (11 innings)

NEW YORK — Pinch-hitter Trea Turner drew a bases-loaded walk in the 11th inning as Washington outlasted New York.

Bryce Harper and Jose Lobaton homered for the Nationals, who won their fifth straight.

Michael Conforto and Curtis Granderson hit solo home runs for the Mets.

Pirates 6, Yankees 3

PITTSBURGH – Josh Bell and Jordy Mercer homered off CC Sabathia and Pittsburgh beat New York in an interleague game.

Bell hit a two-run home run in the second inning while Mercer opened the game with his first home run of the season.

Sabathia lasted five innings, allowing season highs of four runs and seven hits.

Phillies 4, Braves 3

PHILADELPHIA — Jeremy Hellickson turned in another solid outing, outdueled Bartolo Colon and got just enough run support to help Philadelphia to a win over Atlanta.

Hellickson allowed two runs and three hits in seven innings. Cesar Hernandez collected three hits and scored two runs as Philadelphia stopped a seven-game losing streak to the Braves.

Colon allowed four runs and 11 hits in seven innings. Freddie Freeman and Adonis Garcia homered for the Braves.

Cardinals 6, Brewers 3

MILWAUKEE — Adam Wainwright did a little of everything as St. Louis beat Milwaukee.

Wainwright struck out nine in five innings for his first win of the season. He also hit a two-run homer and added a two-run bases-loaded single.

Ryan Braun homered for Milwaukee.

Indians 3, White Sox 0

CHICAGO — Corey Kluber pitched a three-hitter as Cleveland blanked Chicago.

Kluber struck out nine in his fourth career shutout and 11th complete game. He only allowed one baserunner to reach second base.

Chicago’s Jose Quintana allowed three runs and five hits in six innings to fall to 0-4.

Cubs 6, Reds 5 (11 innings)

CINCINNATI — Anthony Rizzo hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning and Kris Bryant lifted a sacrifice fly in the 11th as Chicago outlasted Cincinnati.

The Cubs rallied from a 5-2 deficit when Rizzo homered off Michael Lorenzen with two outs in the ninth. Albert Almora scored on Bryant’s sacrifice fly.

Adam Duvall homered and starting pitcher Tim Adleman added a two-run double for the Reds.

Twins 6, Tigers 3

MINNEAPOLIS — Eddie Rosario hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning and Minnesota beat Detroit.

Jorge Polanco hit the game-tying single before Rosario connected against reliever Joe Jimenez.

James McCann homered for Detroit and Miguel Cabrera collected three hits. Cabrera exited the game in the eighth inning with a strained right groin.

Astros 6, Rays 3

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Carlos Beltran hit a home run for the second day in a row as Houston beat Tampa Bay.

Mike Fiers allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings while Brian McCann and Yuli Gurriel collected three hits apiece for Houston.

Corey Dickerson, Logan Morrison and Evan Longoria hit solo home runs off Fiers.

Rangers 6, Royals 2

ARLINGTON, Texas — Joey Gallo and Robinson Chirinos each homered twice beat Kansas City.

Gallo hit a two-run homer and a solo homer for his first career two-homer game, while Chirinos blasted a pair of solo homers. It marked the 16th time in club history at least two Rangers had multi-homer games in the same game.

Cole Hamels allowed a run and three hits in eight innings for Texas. Kansas City’s Nate Karns gave up six runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Rockies 6, Giants 5

DENVER — Trevor Story hit a grand slam in the fourth inning off Johnny Cueto and Colorado edged San Francisco.

Charlie Blackmon added a two-run, inside-the-park homer off Cueto in the fourth while Tony Wolters contributed three hits.

Brandon Belt homered for San Francisco. Cueto allowed six runs and eight hits in five innings.
