HOUSTON — Patrick Corbin came within an out of his first complete game in nearly four years, scattering four hits in 8 2/3 innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks earned a split of their four-game, home-and-home interleague series with the Houston Astros with a 4-0 victory on Thursday at Minute Maid Park.

Corbin (10-11) struck out seven, issued one walk and threw 71 of 105 pitches for strikes.

The Diamondbacks (67-54) provided the requisite run support beginning in the third inning, with catcher Jeff Mathis delivering a run-scoring single that scored Ketel Marte from third base. Daniel Descalso added an inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning, the third of the season for the Diamondbacks, when his fly ball to center field ricocheted off the wall and past pursuing Astros center fielder Jake Marisnick.

Reds 13, Cubs 10

CHICAGO — Phillip Ervin drove in four runs, including a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning, as Cincinnati blew an early nine-run lead and outlasted Chicago.

Ervin was 3-for-4 and homered off Justin Grimm (1-2) to give the Reds an 11-9 lead after they held a 9-0 advantage following the second inning.

Joey Votto also homered for the Reds, who split the series despite allowing six homers on a windswept day.

Ian Happ homered twice for the Cubs, including the second of three straight homers in the fourth. Kris Bryant hit his 23rd homer to start the fourth, Alex Avila preceded Happ’s second homer with a two-run homer and Javier Baez homered on the next pitch after Happ’s second homer. Kyle Schwarber also homered for the Cubs.

Braves 10, Rockies 4

DENVER — Ender Inciarte hit two solo homers as Atlanta beat Colorado to gain a split of a four-game series.

Freddie Freeman and Tyler Flowers also homered for the Braves, who rebounded from Wednesday’s 17-2 loss.

Rookie Lucas Sims (1-3), allowed two runs and five hits in five innings for his first MLB win. Charlie Blackmon had three hits and hit a ninth-inning homer for the Rockies, who lost for the seventh time in 10 games.

Blue Jays 5, Rays 3

TORONTO — Justin Smoak hit the go-ahead two-run home run in the eighth inning, Josh Donaldson hit two solo homers and Toronto defeated Tampa Bay.

Smoak hit his 33rd homer of the season with one out against Tommy Hunter (2-4) after Donaldson walked. Smoak was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Dominic Leone (3-0) got the win after allowing three hits and the tying run in the eighth and Roberto Osuna pitched around a single to earn his 32nd save.

Cleveland 9, Twins 3 (Game 1)

MINNEAPOLIS — Yan Gomes and Jason Kipnis each had three hits with a homer, and Carlos Carrasco continued Cleveland’s strong run of starting pitching to beat the Minnesota in the first game of a split doubleheader.

Jay Bruce had a two-run single in the first inning for the Indians, who have won six games in a row and are 9-0 at Minnesota’s Target Field this season.

The Indians’ starting pitching has given up no more than one run in 10 of the past 13 games. The Twins struck out 19 times in the game to set a new record for a single game.
