MIAMI — Washington Nationals left-hander Gio Gonzalez, a Miami Dade County native, took a no-hitter into the ninth inning and led the Nationals to a 1-0 victory over the Miami Marlins on Monday night at Marlins Park.

Dee Gordon broke up the no-hit bid, slapping a single to center on a 1-1 breaking ball to lead off the ninth. Gonzalez (9-5), who was removed after the single to Gordon, walked three and hit one batter while striking out five.

Sean Doolittle relieved Gonzalez and earned his seventh save of the season and the fourth since the Nationals acquired him from the Oakland Athletics.

Washington scored the game’s only run in the sixth. Brian Goodwin doubled off the wall in center. He advanced to third on Difo’s sacrifice bunt and scored when Bryce Harper stroked an opposite-field single to left.

Orioles 2, Royals 1

BALTIMORE — Craig Gentry lined a walk-off single with two outs in the ninth inning to give Baltimore a victory over Kansas City.

Caleb Joseph started the winning rally with a one-out single off Joakim Soria (4-3). Joseph advanced to second on a two-out single by Ruben Tejada. Gentry followed with a soft single to center for his first walk-off hit and Baltimore’s seventh walk-off win this year.

The Orioles won their third straight. The victory was the 1,480th of Baltimore manager Buck Showalter’s career, tying him with Earl Weaver for 24th on the all-time list.

Yankees 7, Tigers 3

NEW YORK — Chase Headley produced three hits, including a two-run double in a four-run fourth inning, as New York beat Detroit.

Todd Frazier delivered a two-run single and Aaron Judge hit his major-league-leading 34th homer as the Yankees improved to 12-6 since the All-Star break and won for the seventh time in eight games.

Luis Severino (8-4) struck out eight while throwing five innings of one-run ball. Aroldis Chapman got the last two outs for his 13th save.

Red Sox 6, Indians 2

BOSTON — Doug Fister pitched 7 2/3 strong innings for his first win in almost a year, Mookie Betts drove in three runs, and Rafael Devers went 4-for-4 to power Boston over Cleveland.

Fister, 0-5 with a 7.46 ERA in seven outings (four starts) with Boston before the game, took a shutout into the eighth but was pulled after allowing a two-run homer to Bradley Zimmer. Fister had lost 10 consecutive decisions dating back to his last win on Aug. 22.

Eduardo Nunez, playing his fourth game with Boston, had three hits and two RBIs as the Red Sox won for only the third time in their past nine games.

Phillies 7, Braves 6

PHILADELPHIA — Odubel Herrera homered and drove in three runs to back a strong outing by starter Nick Pivetta as Philadelphia completed a four-game sweep of Atlanta and won its fifth straight game overall.

The Phillies no longer own the worst record in the majors, a distinction that now belongs to San Francisco.

Pivetta (4-6) held Atlanta to one run on three hits in six innings, but the bullpen nearly gave it away. Hector Neris got the final out for his 10th save.
