MLB Recaps: Phillies’ Eickhoff sharp against Braves

Phillies 9, Braves 0

Jerad Eickhoff tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and fanning five, as Philadelphia blanked Atlanta on Tuesday in Clearwater, Fla. Brock Stassi belted a two-run homer in the seventh inning to highlight the Phillies’ 11-hit attack and Tyler Goeddel slashed a two-run triple. Braves starter Aaron Blair gave up six hits and three runs in four innings.

Mets 2, Astros 1

Yoenis Cespedes drilled a two-run homer in the third inning, accounting for New York’s offense in a win over Houston in West Palm Beach, Fla. Brian McCann’s solo shot in the fourth was Houston’s only meaningful offense. The Mets got four innings from starter Jacob deGrom, who fanned six. Tim Tebow went hitless in his only at-bat.

Tigers 7, Marlins 1

Justin Upton cracked a three-run homer in the fifth as Detroit subdued Miami in Jupiter, Fla. Anthony Gose was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Tigers, while starter Matt Boyd whiffed five and gave up just three hits in five scoreless innings. Matt den Dekker homered in the eighth inning for the Marlins’ only run.

Rays (ss) 10, Yankees 6

Rickie Weeks belted a solo homer and a two-run double to lift a Tampa Bay split squad over New York in Port Charlotte, Fla. Dayron Varona added a two-run homer in the fifth for the Rays, while Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres hit the long ball for the Yankees. Torres also added a two-run double.

Rays (ss) 9, Orioles 6

Corey Dickerson went 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI as a Tampa Bay split squad outscored Baltimore in Sarasota, Fla. Steven Souza added three hits and three RBI for the Rays, who finished with 19 hits. Joey Rickard, Paul Janish and Chris Dickerson each crashed solo homers for the Orioles, which compiled 13 hits.

Red Sox 5, Blue Jays 4

Steve Selsky’s two-run double in the bottom of the eighth lifted Boston to a win over Toronto in Fort Myers, Fla. Mitch Moreland added a two-run single for the Red Sox, which got two innings, two hits and two runs out of starter Drew Pomeranz. Melvin Upton and Mike Ohlman each cracked solo homers for the Blue Jays.
