NEW YORK — Todd Frazier experienced a memorable Yankee Stadium debut, hitting into a run-scoring triple play as the New York Yankees held on for a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday.

New York scored its next three runs in more conventional ways. Aaron Judge singled and scored on Didi Gregorius’ sacrifice fly to right in the fourth, Austin Romine lined an RBI double to right in the fifth and Gregorius hit a home run in the eighth.

For a while, Frazier’s triple play was not the only memorable event for the Yankees as Jordan Montgomery (7-5) faced the minimum and took a no-hitter into the sixth. The rookie left-hander lost his no-hit bid two pitches into the inning when Scott Schebler lined a double to center field.

Cincinnati rookie Luis Castillo (1-4) allowed three runs and seven hits in five innings as the Reds lost for the 10th time in 12 games.

Cubs 7, White Sox 2

CHICAGO — Ben Zobrist reached base four times — including his 500th career extra-base hit — to help the Cubs defeat the White Sox.

Zobrist went 3-for-4 with two doubles plus a walk and an RBI. Willson Contreras was 3-for-5 with four RBIs including a three-run homer, his 16th of the season.

The Cubs’ John Lackey (7-9) made it back-to-back victories since coming off the disabled list with a successful five-plus inning outing. The White Sox’s Carlos Rodon (1-4) suffered his third straight loss.

Brewers 8, Nationals 0

WASHINGTON — Milwaukee’s slumbering offense woke up with a bang as it cracked three home runs off Edwin Jackson en route to a rout of Washington.

Zach Davies (12-4) is tied for the second-most wins in the National League after allowing three hits while striking out seven in 7 2/3 innings, his longest outing of the year, to help the Brewers win for only the second time in nine games.

After missing a home run by inches earlier in his fourth-inning at-bat, Travis Shaw straightened one out and deposited a 1-2 pitch over the wall in center for his 23rd homer of the season and a 5-0 Milwaukee advantage. Eric Thames and Mann Pina also homered.

Astros 5, Phillies 0

PHILADELPHIA — Rookie Derek Fisher, freshly recalled from Triple A, jumped right into the starting lineup and came up with a key two-run single to help Houston defeat Philadelphia.

Fisher went 1-for-3 with the two RBIs and a walk, upping his average to .286 in his first 21 career major league at-bats. He also made two terrific catches in center in the first two innings. The only blemish was getting caught stealing after his only hit.

The five runs were more than enough to support Astros starter Charlie Morton (8-4), who threw seven shutout innings against the club he pitched four games for last year before a hamstring injury cost him the remainder of the 2016 season.

Royals 3, Tigers 1

DETROIT — Danny Duffy recorded his second victory over Detroit in a week as Kansas City won its seventh straight game.

Duffy (7-6) was the winning pitcher in the second victory of the streak, a 16-4 pummeling of the Tigers on Thursday in Kansas City. On Tuesday, Duffy limited the Tigers to one run on six hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Whit Merrifield led off the game with a homer, his 11th of the season. Eric Hosmer added an RBI single, and Mike Moustakas had a sacrifice fly for the Royals. Kelvin Herrera pitched the ninth for his 21st save.

Rays 5, Orioles 4

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Tampa Bay struck for five runs in the second inning then didn’t get another hit until the eighth in its victory over Baltimore.

Tim Beckham belted a three-run homer off the Orioles’ Wade Miley (4-9). Rays rookie Jake Faria (5-1) continued an impressive start to his career, going 7 1/3 innings and holding Baltimore to three runs. He recorded an eighth quality start in nine major league appearances.

Welington Castillo delivered a two-run single in the eighth inning for the Orioles to make it 5-4. Baltimore’s Trey Mancini hit his 16th home run of the season, a solo shot in the sixth.

Blue Jays 4, Athletics 1

TORONTO — Cesar Valdez pitched into the seventh inning against his former team and Ryan Goins had a two-run double as Toronto defeated Oakland.

The Blue Jays scored four unearned runs against Oakland starter Sonny Gray in the second inning to help them take the second straight contest of the four-game series. The Athletics have lost 10 of their last 11 at the Rogers Centre.

Valdez (1-0), making his first start and fifth appearance as a Blue Jay, allowed five hits, one walk, one run and struck out four in his second start of the season. His first start was for Oakland on April 20. The Blue Jays claimed Valdez on waivers May 5.
