SAN DIEGO — Prized Boston Red Sox prospect Yoan Moncada hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth and Eloy Jimenez capped a seven-run ninth with a three-run homer as the World team defeated Team USA 11-3 Sunday in the SiriusXM Futures Game at Petco Park.
Right fielder Jimenez, a Chicago Cubs prospect, had a double and the home run in three at-bats for four RBIs and also made a great catch while running into the right-field railing.
That was one of two great catches for World outfielders in the game. Padres prospect Manuel Margot made a leaping catch at the fence in center in the bottom of the fifth to deny catcher Carson Kelly (St. Louis) a home run.
First baseman Josh Naylor (Miami), second baseman Carlos Asuaje (Padres) and Moncada also had two hits for the World team.
Infielder Alex Bregman (Astros) had a single, double and triple in five at-bats for Team USA, which also got a solo homer from catcher Chance Sisco (Orioles).
The Cuban Moncada, 21, received a $62 million bonus to sign with the Red Sox prior to the 2015 season. Jimenez was given the top signing bonus by a Latin American player in 2013.
