The Detroit Tigers placed left fielder Christin Stewart on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a strained quadriceps muscle.

Stewart, 25, sustained the injury while running the bases in the ninth inning of Tuesday night’s 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. An MRI revealed no structural damage, but bruising and soreness limited his mobility.

Stewart is batting .222 with three homers and a team-high 13 RBIs through 16 games.

“It’s not a big deal, yet he’s really sore, so that is a big deal,” Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said. “He walked in limping, walked out limping.”

The Tigers recalled infielder/outfielder Brandon Dixon from Triple-A Toledo to fill the vacant roster spot.

Dixon, 27, appeared in 74 games as a Cincinnati Reds rookie last season, batting .178 with five homers and 10 RBIs.
