LHP Rodriguez signs minor league deal with Astros

Left-hander Wandy Rodriguez is returning to the Houston Astros after signing a minor league contract on Tuesday with an invitation to spring training.

The Astros also signed minor league left-hander Edwar Cabrera and infielder Danny Worth.

Rodriguez’s contract includes a $1 million base salary if he lands on the major league roster and as much as $3 million in additional incentives, according to CBSSports.com.

The 37-year-old Rodriguez originally signed withe Astros as an amateur free agent from the Dominican Republic in 1999. He first pitched in the major leagues for the Astros in 2005 and remained in Houston until he was dealt to Pittsburgh during the 2012 season, posting an 80-84 record with the Astros.

Last year with the Texas Rangers, Rodriguez had a 6-4 record with a 4.90 ERA. His career record is 97-98 with a 4.10 ERA in 275 games, including 263 starts.

Worth, 30, batted .314 for Triple-A Arizona last year and Cabrera, 28, pitched in Triple-A and Double-A for the Rangers.
