KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Cheslor Cuthbert is playing solid defense, including several web gems, while playing third base since Mike Moustakas went on the disabled list.
Cuthbert is also contributing offensively, hitting safely in eight of his first 10 games.
But when Moustakas returns from his fractured left thumb, the Royals still might find a place for Cuthbert. He is taking ground balls at second base and could be moved there with veteran Omar Infante, who is hitting .236, and Christian Colon struggling. Infante also has taken a step back defensively.
Could Cuthbert wind up at second base when Moustakas comes off the disabled list?
“We’ll see,” Royals manager Ned Yost said. “He’s definitely athletic enough to be able to do it. I don’t think there’s a position out there with probably the exception of shortstop, center field and catcher that he couldn’t play.
