Los Angeles Angels left-hander Andrew Heaney, who has been working his way through elbow inflammation this spring, will start the season on the injured list, manager Brad Ausmus announced Sunday.

Heaney had an MRI exam on his pitching elbow on Thursday that showed no structural damage. Heaney also experienced a bout of elbow discomfort last season but worked through it to make 30 starts, posting a 9-10 record with a 4.15 ERA.

Heaney, 27, was supposed to make a start on March 3, but was scratched from that outing. He returned to record two outs against the Chicago White Sox on March 8, but left that game with more elbow discomfort and has not appeared in any more games.

His time on the injured list might be long. Heaney was scheduled to do some light throwing on Sunday, the first time he has thrown a ball since that outing against the White Sox.
