The Los Angeles Dodgers announced the signing Thursday of free-agent second baseman Howie Kendrick.

The 32-year-old Kendrick agreed to a two-year, $20 million contract last week after rejecting the team’s one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer. That meant the Dodgers were the only major league team who could sign Kendrick without having to lose a 2016 amateur draft pick as compensation.

In Kendrick’s first season with the Dodgers in 2015, he hit .295 with nine home runs and 54 RBIs in 117 games. He was acquired from the San Diego Padres in December 2014.

The Dodgers will have options in 2016 at second base with Kendrick, Enrique Hernandez and Chase Utley on the roster. Utley received a one-year, $7 million contract during the offseason to remain with the Dodgers.
