Legendary Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully will soon start his 67th and final season and he hopes it ends Oct. 2 in San Francisco.
In recent seasons, Scully has only called home games. Speaking at Dodgers FanFest in front of nearly 25,000 fans, the 87-year-old said he would like to call road games, including the last regular-season series in San Francisco and road games against the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
“As a little kid who grew up literally in the Polo Grounds and was an avid Giants fan, I think I would love to finish in a Dodgers-Giants game,” Scully said. “God willing, it will work out. We’ll see.”
Before starting his Hall of Fame broadcasting career in 1950 when the Dodgers played in Brooklyn, Scully grew up in Upper Manhattan near the Polo Grounds where the Giants played before moving to San Francisco following the 1957 season.
Scully also said he might be willing to broadcast a postseason game on radio because it is his final season. He said he would not want to broadcast a World Series game because he feels it would be unfair to current broadcasters Rick Monday and Charley Steiner.
Scully’s comments came a day after a vote by the Los Angeles City Council to rename Elysian Park Avenue to Vin Scully Avenue. The change makes the address of Dodger Stadium 1000 Vin Scully Avenue.
