Locking up a roster mainstay for the long term, the Miami Marlins agreed to give second baseman Dee Gordon a five-year, $50 million extension, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday.

The deal comes months after Gordon captured the National League batting and stolen-base crowns with a .333 average and 58 thefts.

The 27-year-old Florida native made the National League All-Star team for the second year in a row, and he captured his first Gold Glove and his first Silver Slugger award. Gordon also paced the NL with 205 hits.

The five-year extension covers Gordon’s three years of arbitration and the first two years of potential free agency. According to Fox Sports, the contract features a vesting option for a sixth year valued at $14 million.

The Marlins acquired Gordon from the Los Angeles Dodgers along with right-hander Dan Haren and infielder Miguel Rojas in exchange for left-hander Andrew Heaney, right-hander Chris Hatcher, utility man Enrique Hernandez and catcher Austin Barnes on Dec. 11, 2014.

In parts of five major league seasons, the first four with the Dodgers, Gordon has a career .293 average, .328 on-base percentage, .369 slugging percentage, eight homers, 114 RBIs and 188 steals in 477 games.
