Volquez agrees to two-year deal with Marlins

Edinson Volquez agreed to sign a two-year, $22 million contract with the Miami Marlins, multiple outlets reported Monday.

The 33-year-old native of the Dominican Republic spent the last two seasons with Kansas City and was a member of the Royals’ starting rotation during their 2015 World Series title run.

Volquez was 23-20 with a 4.43 ERA and 294 strikeouts in 68 games (67 starts) over his two years with the Royals. In 2016, Volquez posted a 10-11 record with a 5.37 ERA and 139 strikeouts in 34 starts.

He allowed a career-worst 113 earned runs in the 2016 season.

Volquez has 12 major league seasons under his belt between the Royals, Texas Rangers, Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates.

He was a career-best 17-6 with a 3.21 ERA in 33 games (32 starts) with the Reds in 2008.

In 259 career games (252 starts), Volquez is 89-79 with a 4.44 ERA and 1,229 strikeouts over 1,432 1/3 innings.
