The New York Mets claimed outfielder Aaron Altherr off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on Thursday, designating right-hander Tim Peterson for assignment in a corresponding move.

This is the third team this month for Altherr, who struck out as a pinch-hitter in his only at-bat with the Giants on May 17 at Arizona.

San Francisco claimed him off waivers from Philadelphia on May 11 after he went 1-for-29 with one RBI in 22 games for the Phillies.

The 28-year-old has a lifetime .221 average with 36 homers and 148 RBIs in 333 big league games.
