Wilmer Font’s run with the New York Mets lasted two months after the team designated the right-hander for assignment Friday.

Font, 29, who was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in a May trade, was 1-2 for his National League club, with a 4.94 ERA in 15 appearances (three starts). He was 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA in 10 appearances for the Rays earlier this season.

Over five seasons with the Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, Rays and Mets, Font is 4-5 with a 6.00 ERA in 52 appearances (eight starts).

Right-hander Chris Mazza, 29, was recalled to take Font’s spot on the roster. Mazza made his major league debut June 29, giving up one run in four innings against the Atlanta Braves. It is his only appearance in the major leagues.

Mazza is 3-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 13 starts across two minor-league levels this season.
