New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia was placed on the injured list Thursday with right knee inflammation.

Sabathia signaled the move Wednesday, saying after the game he was likely to head back to New York to have his knee drained and receive an injection of cortisone.

“It’s something I need to take care of,” the 38-year-old said after a 7-5 Yankees win over the Orioles.

Sabathia (3-1) threw 88 pitches but said every time he lands, pain shoots through his right knee and makes it challenging to finish pitches.

Injuries have decked the Yankees this season, with nearly half of the 40-man roster having served stints on the 10-day injured list. Right-handed ace Luis Severino hasn’t pitched this season, left-hander James Paxton missed time and right-hander Masahiro Tanaka left his most recent start Saturday screaming in pain with a shin injury that required X-rays. Tests were negative.
