The New York Yankees added third baseman Todd Frazier and right-handed relievers David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle to the active roster prior to Wednesday afternoon’s game against the Minnesota Twins.
New York obtained the three players from the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night for Blake Rutherford, the Yankees’ top outfield prospect, two more minor-leaguers — left-hander Ian Clarkin and outfielder Tito Polo — and veteran right-hander Tyler Clippard.
The new Yankees were expected to arrive around game time for the series finale in Minnesota.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told reporters he will continue to engage in trade talks.
“The bullpen has become a little bit of an issue the last month,” Cashman said. “It’s almost like we’ve been playing catch-up ever since (the series against the Los Angeles Angels). We do believe clearly this adds some significant weapons to the high-caliber pieces we possess in the bullpen. We also hope Todd Frazier can stabilize the infield as well.”
To make room on the roster, the Yankees optioned left-hander Chasen Shreve to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and designated infielder Ji-Man Choi and infielder/outfielder Rob Refsnyder for assignment.
