Out since April 20, Madison Bumgarner is ready to get rolling with the San Francisco Giants.

He threw 86 pitches in Class A San Jose for the Giants on Monday and will be activated after the All-Star break.

“It sucks,” he said Monday, “I put myself in this spot. I wish I wouldn’t have.”

With the Giants on a road trip in Colorado in April, Bumgarner was injured during an off-day in Denver on April 20. Bumgarner injured the shoulder and his ribs in a dirt bike accident.

Four days later, Bumgarner said he regretted the decision to ride trail bikes in the mountains outside of Denver with two family members.

“Obviously, it was not my intentions when we set out to enjoy the off-day,” Bumgarner said at the time. “I realize that’s definitely not the most responsible decision I’ve made. It sucks not being able to be out here with my guys.”

Bumgarner opted not to have shoulder surgery and said he reminded himself repeatedly not to second-guess the decision during his stint in the minors.

The original timetable was for Bumgarner to miss six-to-eight weeks, but Bumgarner was still in the middle of rehab in the minors in June.

The 2014 World Series hero had never previously been on the disabled list during his eight-plus major league seasons.

The Giants are sputtering, 27 games back of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. Bumgarner will start Saturday against the San Diego Padres.

Bumgarner, 27, is 0-3 with a 3.00 ERA this season.
