General manager Jerry Dipoto has opted not to retain manager Lloyd McClendon.
The Seattle Times reported Friday that Dipoto, hired last month after previously serving in the same capacity with the Los Angeles Angels, was given authority to determine McClendon’s fate. Per the report, McClendon was informed he would not return in 2016, the final year of his existing contract.
McClendon, 56, guided the Mariners to a 76-86 record in 2015.
Dipoto clashed with the on-field coaching staff with the Angels before he resigned during the 2015 season.
