The Washington Nationals on Tuesday night added infield depth when they agreed to a one-year deal with veteran Stephen Drew.

The deal, worth a reported $3 million, will add the 32-year-old Drew to an infield that includes former New York Mets second baseman Daniel Murphy, who was signed last week. Washington forked over $37.5 million to acquire Murphy’s services.

Drew, a left-handed hitter who provides some pop on offense, can play shortstop, second and third base.

With Murphy set for second base, Danny Espinosa is the likely starter at shortstop with Drew backing him up. Anthony Rendon and Ryan Zimmerman round out the infield at third and first base.

Drew, 32, hit .201 with 16 doubles and 17 homers in 428 plate appearances last season for the Yankees.
