Washington Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg was placed on the 10-day disabled list with nerve impingement in his right elbow, the team announced Thursday.
Left-hander Sammy Solis was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the roster spot of Strasburg, who will venture to the disabled list for the ninth time in his career. The two-time All-Star owns a 10-3 mark with a 3.25 ERA in 20 starts this season.
Strasburg exited after pitching two scoreless innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. The 29-year-old underwent a diagnostic ultrasound that revealed nerve impingement in his right forearm.
Strasburg has been injury-free this season but has a lengthy list of problems that date to his rookie campaign in 2010. He tore an elbow ligament that season and needed Tommy John surgery that kept him out for all but five games in 2011.
He was on the disabled list four times during the 2015 and 2016 seasons and limited to 19 starts last season by a sore right elbow and an upper back strain.
Solis, 28, appeared in 10 games this season with the Nationals and owns a 1-2 mark with a 4.50 ERA in six appearances with Syracuse.
