Washington Nationals versatile infielder Stephen Drew agreed to a one-year contract, the team announced on Thursday.
The club did not disclose financial terms of the deal, but MLB Network’s Jon Heyman said that Drew will receive a base salary of $3.5 million with incentives that can earn him an additional $1.2 million.
Drew batted .266 with eight homers and 21 RBIs in 70 games this past season for the Nationals. The veteran, who will turn 34 in March, played 21 games at second base and 12 at both third and shortstop last season.
Drew, who is expected to backup Trea Turner at shortstop, batted .252 with 122 homers and 507 RBIs over an 11-year career with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Nationals.
