The New Orleans Pelicans hired Brooklyn Nets assistant general manager Trajan Langdon as their general manager.
The 43-year-old Langdon joined the Nets in March 2016.
The former Duke standout and first-round NBA draft pick will work alongside executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin.
“Trajan is a tremendous talent and shares in our vision of what it means to be a part of the Pelican family, on and off the floor. We are excited to add he and his family to our leadership group as we continue building upon that vision,” Griffin said in a team statement.
Langdon’s hire caps one of the most important weeks in franchise history. The Pelicans won the NBA draft lottery on Tuesday, giving them the opportunity to add consensus No. 1 pick Zion Williamson of Duke.
Langdon was the 11th overall pick in 1999 and played three seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers before continuing his professional career overseas in Italy, Turkey and Russia.
After his playing career ended in 2011, he worked as a scout for the San Antonio Spurs from 2012-15 and spent one year as director of player administration and basketball operations for the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he worked under Griffin.
The Pelicans fired their general manager, Dell Demps, in February.
