The Chicago Bulls expect point gaurd Derrick Rose to return to the team on Wednesday.

Rose is recovering after he was hit in the face and fractured the left orbital bone last week during practice. He subsequently underwent surgery.

“Follow-up (exam) went very well,” Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said Saturday. “They’ve advised him to continue to let that sight heal, and they think the best way to do that is for him to stay at home at this time. We plan on him being back Wednesday morning.”

Rose must refrain from any basketball activity for two weeks. Bulls coaches were meeting with him Saturday to go over Hoiberg’s system. Hoiberg was hired as head coach during the summer and conducting his first training camp with the team.

The Bulls continue to hope that Rose will be ready to play in the season opener on Oct. 27 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“Everything’s the same,” Hoiberg said of the timeline for Rose’s recovery. “After those two weeks, he should be able to resume full activity. It’s just these two weeks he’ll be very inactive.

“They don’t really want him doing much of anything except walking back and forth, just getting a lot of rest. And not doing anything where he can dilate his blood vessels is kind of what we heard.”
